Fifth grade Orchestra

Would your child enjoy orchestra class as a fifth grader this year?

Here is some information to help you make that decision
  • Program location

Pine Lake Middle School is the host site for the 2011-2012 fifth grade orchestra program for the Beaver Lake and Pine Lake programs.

The District is currently looking for teachers for Issaquah Middle School, Maywood, and Pacific Cascade orchestra programs. Please watch this website for further information.

  • Length of Class and Time of Day

Orchestra's 30-minute classes begin in October and take place twice each week. Classes are held during middle school first period—BEFORE the start of elementary school day.

  • Transportation

Early morning transportation to the host middle schools is the responsibility of each student's family. When orchestra class is finished each day, students may ride district school buses to their elementary schools to begin their elementary school day. Students who attend a late start school should report to the before-school care program at their elementary school when they arrive.

  • Cost

The annual, non-refundable $250 fee helps cover the cost of orchestra instructors, transportation and before-school care. This fee is due as explained on the registration form, before the first class session in October 2011.

Registrations are accepted until a class is full. Once a class fills, we will place students' names on a wait list in the order each completed registration packet is received. Additional registration forms are available on this web page, at your school office, and at the Central Administration office at 565 NW Holly Street in Issaquah.

Students select the stringed instrument of their choice—violin, viola, cello or bass—and rent (recommended) or purchase the instrument before classes begin in October. Each student should also purchase the book Essential Elements 2000, Book 1 for the instrument they have selected, along with supplies such as a shoulder rest for violins and violas and an end-pin holder for cellos and basses. Orchestra teacher Cindy Elder has included a list of possible instrument rental resources for information only. Please see the issaquah School district Disclaimer below.

Fifth grade orchestra is a popular choice program and gives students a chance to begin a life-long skill for their personal enjoyment or potential career. We are pleased to offer the opportunity and to invite them to take part.

For information about the orchestra program, please email Orchestra teacher Cindy Elder or call her at (425) 837-5750 or email Jane Tull or call her at (425) 837-7025.
