Would your child enjoy orchestra class as a fifth grader this year? Here is some information to help you make that decision:
- Location
Maywood, Issaquah, and Pine Lake Middle Schools are host sites for the 2009-2010 fifth grade orchestra program. Please indicate on the registration forms the middle school that your student's elementary school will attend for lessons.
- Length of Class and Time of Day
Orchestra's 30-minute classes begin in early October and take place twice each week. Classes are held during middle school 1st period - BEFORE the start of elementary school. Students who attend a late start school should report to the before school care program.
- Transportation
When orchestra class is finished each day, students may ride district school buses to their elementary schools to begin their elementary school day. Early morning transportation to the host middle schools is the responsibility of each student's family.
- Cost
The annual, non-refundable $230 fee helps cover the cost of orchestra instructors. This fee is due as explained on the registration form, before the first class session in October 2009.
Registrations are accepted until a class is full.
Once a class fills, we will place students' names on a wait list in the order each completed registration packet is received. Additional
registration forms are available on this web page, at your school office, and at the Central Administration office at 565 NW Holly Street in Issaquah.
Students select the stringed instrument of their choice - violin, viola, cello or bass –and rent or purchase the instrument before classes begin in October. Each student should also purchase the book Essential Elements 2000, Book 1 for the instrument they have selected, along with supplies such as a shoulder rest for violins and violas and an end-pin holder for cellos and basses.
For information about the orchestra program, please contact the teacher at the site your student will attend: Maywood/Issaquah Middle School: Jana Dalpez, 425-837-6948; Pine Lake/Beaver Lake Middle School: Mollie Ewing, 837-5750.
Fifth grade orchestra is a popular choice program and gives students a chance to begin a life-long skill for their personal enjoyment or potential career. We are pleased to offer the opportunity and to invite you to take part.
