Materials and resources

There are print and online resources to support students and their families in Discovering Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2 as well as in our previously adopted materials, Pre-Calculus and Calculus from Key Curriculum Press.

The text books are available on line, with links to resources to support students. In the first weeks of class, each student in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre - Calculus and Calculus will receive a code from their teacher which will give them access to additional online materials, including the entire book. Additional materials that do not require a code are available to students and families and are listed below.

Dynamic Explorations are structured online investigations so that students and their families can explore mathematical concepts at home. Here are links to examples from each class:

  • Algebra 1: Line Drill: The sketches in this exploration will help you test your skill at finding the intercept and the point-slope forms of equations of straight lines. Exercise 3 in Lesson 4.2 on page 230 of Discovering Algebra: An Investigative Approach tests the same skills at finding the intercept form. In the Equivalent Equations Investigation on pages 241-242, you get practice in converting from point-slope form to intercept form and in testing the equivalence of linear equations in different forms.
  • Geometry: Triangles in a Circle: On this web page you can investigate the properties of a triangle with one vertex at the center of a circle and two vertices on the circle.
  • Algebra 2: Translations of Parabolas: On this web page you can explore the relationship between the equation of a translated parabola and the coordinates of its vertex. This will help you deepen your understanding of the central ideas of Lesson 4.4 of Discovering Advanced Algebra: An Investigative Approach.

The following resources are available online and in print.
  • Condensed Lessons (in English and Spanish) provide extra help for students who have fallen behind or missed some school.
Lecciones condensadas en espanol ayudan estudiantes y familias entender las lecciones en el libro o alcanzar con los otros estudiantes si se falta a unas clases.
  • More Practice Your Skills helps sharpen algebra skills through extra practice.
  • Calculator Notes, Programs, and Data contain helpful information, programs, and tips for using calculators for specific activities.
  • The Parent Guide (in English and Spanish) includes tips for working with students, chapter summary exercises, and review exercises with complete solutions.
Una Guia para los Padres incluye puntas para trabajar con estudiantes, los ejercicios del resumen del capitulo, y los ejercicios de la revision con soluciones completas.
  • Student Web Links lead to interesting sites on the Web where you can find out more about the mathematics in Discovering Algebra and its connection to the world.
