The adoption committees met to confirm decisions made in the spring, to plan the IMC presentation, and to outline potential professional development needs. Representatives from the adoption committee will present recommendations to the IMC on Thursday, September 13th.

After reviewing student and teacher feedback on the materials from field tests, the workgroup recommended:

The workgroup reviewed the rubrics for reviewing materials and spent the day reviewing precalculus and calculus text books. They identified two books in each subject to move forward to field testing:

• Precalculus
  • Precalculus, published by Glencoe, McGraw Hill
  • Precalculus, Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic, 8th edition, published by Pearson
• Calculus
  • Calculus, Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic, AP Edition, 4th edition, published by Pearson
  • Calculus, AP edition, 9th edition, published by Brooks/Cole

March 30, 2012

• This smaller workgroup consisting of IB Math teachers reviewed the IB Mission Statement, Learner Profile and Group 5 (math) Aims and Assessment Objectives.
• The group reviewed the IB Standards for Math SL and HL and aligned those with Math I, II and III.
• After examining some alternative materials, they recommended rolling up to the 3rd edition of the current IB Math test book, Haese & Harris, Mathematics for the IB student HL to be used for all 3 years of IB Math.

March 27, 2012

• The committee reviewed and revised the rubrics that they created in the previous meeting and used the rubrics to evaluate the current materials and compare them to other precalculus materials. They determined that a more complete materials selections process is necessary.

March 7, 2012

• The workgroup reviewed the scope of their work and agreed upon their consensus decision making process. The group then examined the Common Core State Standards and reviewed topics that should be in the precalculus course in order to prepare students for calculus and created rubrics to use in their review of materials.
• The committee determined that the new edition of the precalculus book currently in use is better than the previous version, but they would like to review other text book options in order to make an educated recommendation.
