WaKIDS is a state-wide program designed to welcome children and their families to kindergarten and the K-12 system as partners in their child’s education. Beginning in school year 2016-2017 all Issaquah School District elementary schools will participate in the WaKIDS program. WaKIDS is required for schools that receive state funds for full-day kindergarten.
WaKIDS has three components:
- The Family Connection component which helps families and teachers begin to build relationships by providing time to meet individually with their child’s kindergarten teacher.
- The Whole-child assessment which measures children’s skills and strengths in social-emotional, physical, language, literacy, cognitive, and mathematical areas, all of which are important for school success.
- The Early Learning Collaboration component which supports collaboration with early learning professionals in our community.
