CTE Points of Pride

  • April 26, 2010: Issaquah High School's Advanced Sports Medicine class placed 3rd out of more than 50 high school teams at the Sports Medicine Symposium. Over 600 students from across the country competed. This is the sixth year that IHS has placed in the Top 5 of this national competition.

  • April 14, 2010: James Garcia, Mary Kate Hoehl, Cory Jenneskens and Philip Sharpe all of Issaquah High School scored 100% on their National Financial Capability Challenge test. In addition, 28 of the IHS students who took the challenge test scored in the top 20th percentile nationwide!

  • March 25, 2010: Kiona Rosenburg, Issaquah High School senior, was accepted to the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, Rhode Island. This honor will will guarantee her admission for the Naval Academy Class of 2015. Congratulations Kiona!

  • March 8, 2010: The 3-member, culinary team consisting of Marissa Harrell, Michelle DiMaggio, and Erik McAskill recently wowed the judges in a ProStart competition!  Although they did not place in the top three, their teacher, Zarah Matsuda, has never been so impressed with a team as she was with these three.  “Their team work, speed, skill, and professionalism absolutely blew my mind”.  The judges used the word ‘perfect’ at least six times, with regards to the menu and packet this team presented.  The management team, consisting of Jessica Warren, Danielle Miller, Anderson Tran, and Danyelle Loucks also did very well and received great feedback from the judges.  Congratulations to the Liberty Culinary Team on a fine job!

  • March 6, 2010: Congratulations to the DECA students who qualify for the National DECA Conference! Qualifiers in individual events are Murphey Ransier and Alex Faulkner (who placed first in his event.) Other qualifiers in team events include Amelia Davis with Garrett Timm; Lisa Perry with Taylor Quintana; and Braden Timm with Taylor Newberry. These students will be traveling to Louisville, Kentucky to test their skills against the Nation’s best this April! Congratulations and Good Luck!Engineering Class at PCFC
  • February 27, 2010: Nineteen Skyline students competed in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) STAR events regional competition. This was the first time Skyline was represented at the event. Four of the six Skyline teams qualified for state!
  • February 5, 2010: Skyline DECA qualified 235 out of 243 students for the state competition which will be held in March. Eighty-four of the students who qualified, double qualified which is the highest double qualifiers from one school in Washington DECAs history
  • June 29, 2009: Liberty junior Brian Levine won first place in the Washington DECA Taco del Mar Ad Competition for his one-minute video ad, "The Perfect Wave."
  • May 21, 2009: Thirty-seven students were honored by district administrators, teachers and advisory committee members as Outstanding Students in Career and Technical Education.
  • April 18, 2009: Congratulations to our Issaquah School District Sports Medicine programs for their success at the annual Washington Vocational Sports Medicine Association competition and symposium on April 17 and 18!
       
    • Skyline High placed first for student poster presentations (Medical Pollution) and third for student forum presentations (Going Green in the Sports Medicine Scene). Alex Ning placed fourth in the JV individual test score standings.
    • Issaquah High, led by teacher Todd Parsons, had their highest placing ever—second overall in the team competition! Five students placed in the top 20 for the varsity scoring with Jens Holt-Jensen placing fourth overall, and Rachel Hall placing sixth overall. In the JV competition, Issaquah had five students in the top eight for individual scoring with Jack Chase winning the JV Individual Championship.
  • April 13, 2009: Business and Marketing seniors Dawn Cheung (Liberty) and Jessica Klein (Skyline) were awarded Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE) scholarships. The WAVE program recognizes and rewards students who excel in career and technical education. It pays for two years of undergraduate tuition at an accredited public or private college or university or licensed private vocational school. A committee representing business, labor, education, and government, and interested citizens reviews each application. The committee selects two high school students and one community or technical college student from each of the state's 49 legislative districts to receive the scholarship. More information about the WAVE scholarship is available on the Washington State Workforce Board website.
  • March 9, 2009: Liberty High School's Culinary Arts students took first place in the Washington Restaurant Association's ProStart competition. Culinary team members Marissa Harrell, Emily Petryk, Maile Mittag, and Anna Carlson received rave reviews for their teamwork, communication, and cleanliness.
  • March, 9, 2009: Skyline DECA won the State Championship and broke three of their own records spanning DECA's 62-year history:
    • Most qualified to state—218 (92% of the chapter)
    • Most individual champions—7
    • Most qualified to Nationals—55 (highest in nation!)
