The Issaquah School District offers full-time
high school students the option of taking the required Health course online. The online option is for
students whose schedule is full because of course sequences such as music and
world languages. Students MUST HAVE their counselor's approval to take Health
Online.
Health Online is taught by Issaquah
School District Health teachers. We use an Apex Learning course with
supplemental materials developed by the Issaquah School District. The
course includes culminating project activities required for graduation. It
meets the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements for
Health and Fitness and the standards and competencies from the National
Standards for Family and Consumer Sciences Education. The course satisfies
.5 credit of the Washington state graduation requirement for occupational
education.
Students are required to attend an orientation
meeting on or about the first day of class to receive important course
information and submit the Acceptable Use and Behavior contract.
Is Online Learning for you?
This is
not an easier route than taking a Health class during the regular
school day. It is a 90 hour (semester long) course. During the 6 week
summer session, you should plan on 15 hours a week to complete the work.
During the fall or spring session, you should plan on 5 hours a week. If you already have a rigorous schedule, you must be a
highly-motivated student to complete this additional course work. All
course work must be completed within the semester enrolled. Take this
quick online quiz to see if online learning is for you. Online

Frequently Asked Questions
When can I take Health Online? The course is
available Summer, Fall or Spring semester.
How do I apply? Obtain an application form
from your counselor or download it here. Forms are due back to your counselor
during your regular registration timeframe. Late registrations will be
accepted on a space available basis or wait-listed.
Registration Form.
What is the cost and how do I pay? The tuition fee is $300. If you drop a week before class starts,
$100 of the $300 is refundable. Otherwise, tuition fees are nonrefundable. Payment should be made to your building bookkeeper. Make checks payable to the
Issaquah School District.
What is
the drop policy? The Issaquah School District drop policy for Health Online is the same as the policy for the standard classroom.
For the fall and spring terms, students
have 4 weeks after the start of the class in which to drop without consequences.
After that, an "F" is recorded on the transcript unless there are mitigating
circumstances. For the summer term, students have 1 week. As stated above, you must drop a week before class starts in
order to be eligible for the partial refund of $100. Otherwise, tuition fees are
nonrefundable.
What are the system requirements? You will access the course via the internet.
Make sure your computer and internet access are adequate.
System Requirements
If I already did the culminating project work, do I still need to do
the activities in this course? Yes. Every career and technical education course delivers instruction in
employability and leadership. There is a menu of activities to select from, so
you will be able to choose something you haven't done before or update some of
your previous work based on where you are now.
Can
I work at my own pace? Looking forward and working ahead of schedule
to manage your time and other courses is encouraged. Tests and discussion forums
are available and most relevant during the timeframe that they are scheduled.
You cannot work slower than scheduled and make it up later. This has proven to
not be a successful strategy for most online students. Late work is not
accepted.
How are assignment due
dates managed in the summer if I have a few vacation days planned?
You need to turn assignments in
ahead of time or plan on having internet access where you are vacationing. If
you are not able to commit 15 hours a week to the course, you should consider taking the course during
fall or spring term.
How
many hours a week should I plan on working on the course? Health
Online is a 90 hour course. You should plan 5 hours a week during Fall or
Spring term and 15 hours a week during the Summer term. The same amount of
curriculum is covered regardless of which term you take it. If you take
advantage of starting the summer term early, you will have more time.
Can I start the summer
term early? You will have access to the course the day you
attend orientation. For summer term, this is about 2 1/2 weeks before the
official summer term actually starts. So, you can start working ahead on
your course work. However, teachers will not be interacting with you
regularly until the summer term actually starts.
Can I take the final early?
Because the final is proctored (taken onsite in the presence of a Health
teacher), the test is only available during the scheduled times.
