Issaquah Policy Governance

There is a line between governing the district and administering its daily activities. While boards are ultimately responsible, they employ a professional staff of administrators (led by a superintendent) to manage the day to day functions of the school district.

During regular board meetings and special work study sessions in 2003-2004, the board wrote and refined governance policies.

In June 2004, the School Board transitioned to Issaquah Policy Governance. Working with the Aspen Group, the board has officially adopted new governance documents and procedures which outline their roles and responsibilities and those of District staff. In this system, the board sets targets based upon what the community values for schools. The board uses monitoring reports submitted all year long as the basis for the Superintendent's annual evaluation.
