Under the Policy Governance model, the Issaquah School Board's most important responsibility is to develop a Mission and "Ends," which are areas of knowledge and skill that all students must master by graduation to successfully live and compete in today's dynamic global environment. The Mission and Ends set the educational direction for the entire District.
The School Board developed its mission and Ends with significant input from parents, students, staff, and community members as well as education and business experts. However, they are subject to revision and updates as Board members continually link with constituents and evaluate the changing world.
In the 2008-09 school year, the Board embarked on a comprehensive process to monitor the Mission to determine whether the District is making reasonable progress each year. By looking intensely at student data-from standardized test scores to health surveys to technology proficiency tests to narrative data from individual schools-at meetings throughout the school year, the Board will be able to perform a final, holistic review in June. That review will include goals or areas of focus to launch the District into a new monitoring cycle for the coming school year.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate in the monitoring of the Mission. Upcoming Board meeting dates are posted on the District homepage, and audio recordings of the meetings are available in the podcast archives. Data presented at each meeting is also available below on this web page.
