Science-Technology Programs

PROGRAM INFORMATION FOR BRIARWOOD, CLARK, AND SUNNY HILLS PROGRAMS
Families interested in enrolling their student in this program must attend a mandatory informational meeting. Go to the "Program Information" link above for meeting dates, times, and locations.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Each winter, families of district 3rd graders are invited to learn more about the Issaquah School District choice program options for grades 4 and 5. These programs provide the standard district curriculum for those grades through a much stronger emphasis on science and technology and are located at Briarwood, Clark, and Sunny Hills Elementary Schools.

Approximately 25 students in grades 4 and 25 in grade 5 attend each science/technology program. Students who enter the program as 4th graders continue in the program the following year as 5th graders. Typically, successful students are good independent learners, enjoy inquiry learning, and work well in a team situation.
Families are responsible for transporting their student to and from the program.

Interested students from all district elementary schools are eligible to apply and are entered in the program's lottery. When the lottery is held and all spaces are filled, any remaining students are placed on a waiting list. Students are admitted – as spaces become available – until school starts each fall . Because most 4th grade students continue on as 5th graders, 5th grade seats at both locations are limited. 5th grade families on the current wait list are contacted first to fill any available 5th grade spaces.

HOW TO ENROLL
Families who intend to enroll their student in the Science/Tech program must attend one of the informational meetings where the required enrollment forms are available. Enrollment forms must be delivered to the District office by the due date indicated on the form. All enrollment requests received by the due date are treated equally in the lottery. Forms received later are dated in the order received and placed on the wait list.

Placement letters will be mailed to homes in early April. Please do not contact the schools, teachers or the District office for lottery results.

If you have additional questions, please call 425-837-7025.
