Not content to end 2006 on a
blustery note, Mother Nature appears ready to cause a ruckus in the New Year.
Weather forecasters predict snow and freezing temperatures by tomorrow.
As a reminder, we try to make
decisions about school delays and closures by 5 a.m. We always put student
safety first.
We immediately post any changes at
www.schoolreport.org, which then
sends out a media alert. Please check that website, local television and radio
stations, the District’s homepage (www.issaquah.wednet.edu), your e-mail
account for E-News, or the recorded message at any school’s main phone number
for an update. You can also sign up for Issaquah-specific alerts at www.schoolreport.org.
If the region is experiencing power
outages, a battery-operated radio will probably be your best source for
news.
All information about different
school-delay scenarios (e.g., “Snow Routes Two Hours Late”) is available in the
Emergency Transportation Bulletin. A copy is sent home annually with each
student in the fall, and it is available online at www.issaquah.wednet.edu/documents/emrg.pdf.
What about
activities?
“School Closed” means that all
meetings, field trips, School Age Care, and before- and after-school activities
and facility reservations are cancelled. When schools are delayed with normal
transportation routes, activities and School Age Care are cancelled in the
morning and after-school activities and afternoon School Age Care are held as
scheduled. For altered transportation routes, check the Emergency Transportation
Bulletin.
What happens on a
Learning Improvement Calendar Wednesday?
If a weather-delay occurs on a
Wednesday, we will shift all schools’ Wednesday start times by the one- or
two-hour delay period. Afternoon dismissal times will not
change.
If school is one hour late on
Wednesday, middle and high schools WILL serve school lunch. If school is two
hours late on Wednesday, middle and high schools will NOT serve school
lunch.
Whether or not school is one or two
hours late on Wednesday, elementary schools WILL serve school
lunch.
Hopefully schools will operate on a
normal schedule throughout the week—but it is always good to review
weather-related emergency information.
In the meantime, pull out your warm
jackets!
