- The Issaquah School Board has cancelled its meeting
on Monday, Oct. 23. They’d planned to discuss and approve a “profile”
that will be used to recruit and hire the
new superintendent. Instead, the Board will do this during its regular
business meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the administration
building, 565 N.W. Holly St. Search firm Ray and Associates is creating the
profile based on feedback gathered in interviews with staff, students,
parents, and community members on Oct. 9 and 10.
- The School Board will also discuss long-term facility
planning—using a recently completed demographic
report—in a special meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 18, at the
administration building, 565 N.W. Holly St.
- Do you want to have a
voice in this District? The District Advisory
Team (DAT) is seeking a parent to fill the north elementary representative position
and the central secondary
(middle or high
school) representative

of District staff, parents, students, and community representatives that
gathers every two months with Superintendent Janet
Barry to confront and discuss education-related issues.
Members represent the unique viewpoint of their constituent

- In partnership with
the University of Washington’s Autism Center, scientist
and author Temple Grandin will
give a free lecture about
autism, “Thinking in Pictures,” from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Nov. 1, at Edmonds Community
College’s Triton Union Building 202,
20000 68th Ave.
W., Lynnwood.
Grandin will talk about her isolation growing up with autism and how she
adapted using visual symbols and coping strategies, such as a calming device
she created modeled after cattle squeeze chutes. Grandin will also discuss
the latest in treatment, medication and diagnosis of autism. For more

- Sue Eastgard,
executive director of Youth Suicide
Prevention Program, presents “Understanding Teen Depression and Self-Injury”
from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at Old Redmond Elementary
School Community Center, 16600 N.E. 80th St., Redmond. The free
workshop will address the signs of teen depression, methods for
intervention, and the difference between deliberate self-harm a suicide

- The Greater Issaquah
Youth and Family Network (GIYFN) seeks
grant proposals in the range of $100 to $3,000. Grants will be
awarded to proposals that support the Network’s objective of helping to make
our community a healthier place for children and families through improving
parenting skills, increasing pro-social involvement for youth, and providing
youth suicide prevention services. Program services need to be delivered in
District boundaries. Eligible applicants must represent a 501(c)(3)
