- How shall we
build our middle schools and high schools for the
future?
Changing demographic, financial,
and real estate conditions require the Issaquah School
District to rethink enrollment growth solutions in
the District’s middle and high schools. Administrators are forming a
recommendation to present to the Board on November 14 regarding the best
course of action for the future, which might include impact to:
Beaver
Lake, Issaquah, and Pine Lake middle
schools.
Pacific Cascade Freshman
Campus.
Issaquah and Skyline high schools.
The public is invited to two
meetings to hear and understand the complex challenges and offer advice.
Administrators will provide an overview of the District’s situation and consider
and analyze options from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, and from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday,
Nov. 6. Then they will invite input from participants as they form a
recommendation from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6. All meetings will be at the
administration building, 565 N.W. Holly St. Call Sara Niegowski, 425-837-7004,
for more information.
- The District Advisory
Team (DAT) is seeking two parents to fill the north elementary representative position
and the central secondary
(middle or high
school) representative
position. For more information, call 425-837-7113. DAT is a group
of District staff, parents, students, and community representatives that
gathers every two months with Superintendent Janet Barry to confront and
discuss education-related issues. Members represent the unique viewpoints of
their constituent groups.
- When the weather
turns blustery, nothing beats curling up inside with a good book. Stock up
before winter hits at the District’s surplus library book and obsolete textbook
sale on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the May Valley Service Center, 16430 SE May Valley
Road, Renton. The sale is open to
District students between 1 and 3 p.m. and to the general public between 3 and
5 p.m. For more information,
call Purchasing Services, 425-837-7071.
- It’s a record! The
Issaquah Schools Foundation/Communities in
Schools of Issaquah (ISF/CISI) raised more than $311,000 at its
benefit luncheon on Oct. 19. Those funds will go directly into local schools
to benefit students. Thank you to the more than 925 attendees and major
sponsors.
- Listen to the
School Board’s Oct. 25 meeting online. Search firm Ray
and Associates presented the Board with a summary of its interviews with
students, staff, parents, and community members. That input was used to create
a list of characteristics that will serve as guides in recruiting and hiring
the superintendent.
