Subject: Important note for bus riders; School board to discuss college ad missions process; School Snapshots; and more ...

·        We’ll be counting bus riders next week, Oct. 8-12, for transportation funding from the state. Please make sure all regular bus riders take the bus to and from school!

·        Families with current and future college-bound students, mark your calendars: The Issaquah School Board is meeting with university admissions officers at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Administration Building, 565 N.W. Holly St. This will be an opportunity for Board members to ask questions about the admissions process and what admissions officers look for when accepting applicants. Topics will include how admissions officers evaluate weighted or unweighted grades, IB and AP courses, and more.

The Board will follow up by inviting District career counselors to a discussion about what support systems are available to our high school students as they go through the admissions process. This will be part of the regular Board meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Administration Building.

The Board ultimately hopes to use the information and insights they gather to help make Issaquah students as prepared for and competitive in their postsecondary plans as possible.

Community members are encouraged to send any questions they have for the admissions officers or the District career counselors to schoolboard@issaquah.wednet.edu prior to the meetings. Call 425-837-7004 for more information.

·        Go Eagles! Go Patriots! Go Spartans! Our high schools eagerly welcome all fans at their football games, but they require that any student in eighth grade or younger be accompanied by an adult chaperone. This is an official KingCo athletic rule, and it helps ensure everyone at the game has a safe and festive experience.

·        School Snapshots: Newcastle Elementary is doing some truly egg-ceptional science!

·        The Greater Issaquah Youth and Family Network is funding $100 to $3,000 grants that will make our community a healthier place for children by improving parenting skills, increasing opportunities for youth involvement in positive activities, or providing youth suicide prevention services. Applications are due by October 19. If you have a grant idea, contact Trish McNabb at 425-869-0238 or issaquahyouth@yahoo.com for an application.
