- Weather woes
... it's that time of year again! Be prepared for unexpected school closures and
transportation alterations by becoming familiar with the District's online Emergency
Information page (which can be found in left-hand menu bar of the
District's homepage, www.issaquah.wednet.edu).
There you will find links to
information about how weather-related delay/closure decisions are made and
what that means to school programs, school bus routes, school lunches - even
how LIC Wednesdays are impacted. And remember to refer to the Emergency
Transportation Bulletin that was mailed to every district family in late
October. It contains important information when weather affects school
schedules and bus transportation.
- Do you want to
play a part in inspiring the next generation of Einsteins, Pascals, and
Fibonaccis? Then provide input via an online survey
and help the Issaquah School
District shape its elementary math program for the future. A
committee of teachers from every Issaquah elementary school is currently
working to review the program and identify the best curriculum for adoption.
Data from this parent survey will help the committee narrow the choices down
to a handful of top programs for field testing. The survey closes at 4 p.m.
Dec. 6.
- The Issaquah School
Board is now accepting
applications to fill the vacancy created when Mark Warner resigned
on Nov. 14. All applicants must live in Director District 5 and be 18 years or
older. Applications are due by noon Tuesday, Dec. 12. Complete application
instructions and materials-including a map of Director Districts-are online.
At the Nov. 14 meeting, the Board
also directed administrators to continue looking for land on the Sammamish
Plateau for a fifth middle school.
In the meantime, Board members have pushed up the construction timeline for the
Issaquah High
School
rebuild. More information, including a complete podcast of the
meeting, is online.
- When students in
Liberty High
School's Culinary Arts class heard about a
local family in need, they put their burgeoning cooking skills to good use.
Just in time for Thanksgiving, they decided to bake pies and sell them for $15
each to raise money. Read more on the District's Points of Pride
page.
- With his indomitable
spirit, Issaquah High junior Chandler
Balkman was featured in a video called "Boating Accident: A
Survivor's Recovery" last night on Evening Magazine
(the video is posted on the right side of the show's homepage).
