Should you be worried about MRSA
(a drug-resistant staph infection)? You've seen this "super bug" in the news recently,
but Public Health Seattle & King County wants you to know that MRSA-although
an important health problem-is not any more serious or rampant now than in other
years. "The news media's recent focus on the most dramatic cases of MRSA does
not accurately reflect the spectrum of illness from the bacteria," according to
Public Health Seattle & King County. "Most illnesses caused by MRSA are
treatable skin infections that heal with proper wound care." Issaquah
schools and our school nurses are following all recommended procedures for staph
prevention, and parents should, too. More
information-including a MRSA Q&A and fact sheet-is
online.
