- Parents, this week
you will receive mailed notices about schedule changes for two Wednesdays – March 15 and April
19. On these two WASL
Wednesdays the school schedules K-12 are adjusted to
comply with the state testing schedule requirements.
- Do
you know what a high school transcript looks like? Check out the sample
transcripts on the web – one sample for graduates of 2006
and 2007 and one for the graduates of 2008. 2008 graduates will be
required to meet the state’s new graduation requirements.
- The
Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) is given each fall to second
graders in compliance with House Bill 2042, enacted in 1997. HB 2042
requires that school districts test the reading levels of all second graders
"to provide information to parents, teachers, and school administrators on the
level of acquisition of reading accuracy and fluency skills of each student at
the beginning of second grade."
- Bonnie Cole, who was
named interim principal
of Maple Hills a year ago, has accepted the long-term
assignment as principal.

- Immunity
to chickenpox required for entering preschoolers, kindergarteners, and 6th
graders beginning September 2006
The Washington State Board of
Health requires students entering preschool, kindergarten, and 6th grade in
school year 2006-07 to document immunity to chickenpox (varicella) .
Effective September 2006, Issaquah School
District students entering preschool,
kindergarten, and 6th grade in school year 2006-07 can meet this requirement
by:
- Showing the month,
day, and year the student received one dose of varicella vaccine. The
vaccine must have been given on or after the student's first birthday.
- Documenting the
approximate date or age at which the student had chickenpox.
- Submitting a report
of blood test showing immunity to varicella.
- Requesting an
exemption to this requirement for philosophical, religious, or medical
reasons.
