Subject: Thank you! Saturday seminar for parents

Thank you from Superintendent Barry.  We are so fortunate to have such wonderful support from our community!    With 13,000 ballots and all precincts counted, all four district ballot measures are succeeding with big margins above the required 60% level.  The late absentee ballots will still affect ballot numbers in the next several days, but the trend has been upward since the first count; we’ll be watching the results and invite you to do the same on the King County Elections website.

As of 10 p.m. on Tuesday evening, the results were:

Volunteers for Issaquah Schools ran a marvelous campaign.  Staff contributed hugely on their own time.  The Board and I are awed and immensely grateful for that hard work and dedication and for what it means to the future of the District’s students.

As you know, we’re prohibited from campaigning with District resources, but I’m not prohibited from expressing gratitude for the extraordinary efforts of so many.   We now have funding in place for basic programs, technology, facility improvements everywhere, and the new land and buildings necessary to manage growth in middle and elementary schools.   We have great work ahead to keep our schools performing and improving!

Thank you for helping pave a pathway for the future!

Sincerely,

Janet Barry

Your school technology levy dollars at work.  When voters yesterday reauthorized the Capital Levy, they enabled the District to continue incorporating educational technology in classrooms and continue using operational technology to ensure efficient business practices.

Efficient technology use is so basic for today’s students that to graduate from high school, Issaquah students must pass a Technology Proficiency class or take a Software Technology class.  The skills students must have to pass either the class or the test are outlined on the district website.

Parents and Teens Together is the name of a Saturday, February 11 conference.  Download details and a registration form.  The conference brings teens and parents to learn about communication strategies, gather bullying advice, discuss nutrition and fitness – even the state’s new graduation requirements.

Students are admitted free!  PTSA units can send as many parents as they wish – all for a $25 fee per unit.  The conference is open to all – not just PTSA members.
