·        Our students will be prepared for and eager to accept the academic, occupational, personal and practical challenges of life in a dynamic global environment.” That is the mission statement school board members drafted during their March 17 and 18 retreat. In addition, the board established “End Statements” outlining what students will know and be able to do upon graduation from the District. --more-->

·        This time of year Washington school districts are developing budgets for next year’s school programs.  Final budgets must be approved by school boards across the state by August 2006.  Follow Issaquah School District’s budget process and timeline detailed on the District Budget Tracker.

·        As part of the 2006-2007 budget process, Superintendent Barry outlined the vision and actions necessary for academic achievement.  She details funding challenges the District faces and outlines planning and management strategies required of district leaders over the next 5-8 years – actions and considerations necessary to build financial and educational capacity for the long term.

·        Each year the board develops Budget Guidelines – establishing the budget parameters and expectations.  These guidelines set budget priorities and expected impacts of the 2006-2007 budget.

·        When school begins next fall, Mike Deletis will be the principal at Liberty High School.   A committee of staff and parents selected him last week to replace Kevin Davis who is leaving at the end of this year. Until the end of the year, Deletis will continue as Issaquah High School assistant principal. Liberty High School families will see Mr. Deletis this spring at LHS functions as his schedule allows.

·        The Issaquah Schools Foundation (ISF) prints the district art calendar – making it possible for families and staff to have a 12-month art gallery and chronicle of school events.  Business advertising in the calendar helps fund ISF grants.  There are only a few advertising spaces left!

Student artists have until April 19 to submit calendar art for consideration.

·        March 30 Substance Abuse and Awareness Summit takes place at Hazen High School in Renton beginning at 7 pm in the school’s Performing Arts Center.

This is a town hall style meeting about the alcohol and drug issues that face students, teachers, parents and community.

The Renton and Issaquah PTSA groups are encouraging families and staff from both districts to learn from Drug Enforcement Agency, state, county and local agencies.   Various providers and support agencies will also be sharing information about their programs and the resources available to those in need.
