Next week, all schools will operate on a non-Wednesday bell schedule-not the usual shortened LIC schedule-on Wednesday, March 14. So school will start and end at the same time all five days. The minutes were added to make up for a missed school day.

Hopefully you took the opportunity this week to meet Kelt Cooper, the School Board's preferred superintendent candidate, during his visit here. What happens now in the superintendent search? Board members Jan Woldseth and Suzanne Weaver will conduct a site visit next Monday and Tuesday at the school district where Mr. Cooper was most recently superintendent, Nogales Unified School District in Arizona. The School Board will reconvene to discuss the next steps and possibly take action at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Administration Building, 565 N.W. Holly St.

WASL, WASL everywhere. Don't forget WASL testing kicks off Tuesday, March 13, in high schools. The high school testing schedule is online. More information for grades 3 through 8 will be available closer to their testing window, April 17 through May 4. Help students be successful by making sure they get a good night's sleep and eat breakfast when testing.

Go students! Skyline thespians are stealing the spotlight and Liberty state competitors have LifeSmarts (do you?).

All students are invited to enter the Association for Pupil Transportation's 2007 School Bus Safety Poster Contest. There are different age categories, and winners receive $50 (state level) and the chance to win a $1,000 savings bond (national level). This year's safety theme is: "Stop on Red, Kids Ahead." More information is online. Issaquah students must turn their posters into the District's Transportation Department by April 27. Students can submit posters directly to Connie McCoy at the main transportation center, 805 Second Ave. S.E., Issaquah, or schools can send posters with a bus driver who will make sure Connie McCoy receives them.
