A RESOURCE every parent should know about!

It’s called Family Access.  Family Access is an on-line cache of information and an emergency security blanket for every parent in the district.  Family Access lists the emergency contacts you’ve specified for your children – those people and places you want notified when bad things happen – when the school absolutely must get a hold of someone quickly regarding a child of yours.  If your information is out of date or incorrect, the school may not be able to reach you quickly….or at all.

Family Access is also key to your getting regular electronic messages next year from your school and the district.  The e-mail addresses you enter in Family Access will get regular district and school E-News notices starting next fall.  This means you will get quick snippets of school and district news, saving you piles of paper and reducing district printing and postage costs.

Recording your contact info in Family Access NOW ensures you will be “in the loop” for the rest of this year and next year with attendance, students’ schedules, e-mail from staff, and monitoring of student grades.

It’s easy to check or update your Family Access info:

1.      go to www.issaquah.wednet.edu

2.      look for Family Access in the left hand menu

3.      Login to Family Access using the information sent to each family from school last fall.  (Or call your elementary school secretary or middle and high school registrar if you have misplaced that information.)

Family Access software upgrades are expected over the summer, giving parents and the district the potential for expanded and deeper communication links.  Be sure you are positioned to take advantage of what is available now and in the future.

5 free Thursdays, free childcare – even free dinners!

Did you know that 13 year olds report that only half of their parents have ever talked to them seriously about the dangers of alcohol and other drugs but that 8 out of 10 parents say that drugs and alcohol are their top worries?  What’s up with THAT?

Parents of students aged 11-14 wanting to know what’s up can attend FREE seminars called “Guiding Good Choices.”  You’ll learn ways to increase school success for your students and how to diminish the changes that your early teen will use alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana.

Thursday, May 4, 11, 18, 25, and June 1 at Issaquah Middle School.  Free dinner begins at 5:30 each evening.  Seminars run from 6 – 8 pm each evening.  Free childcare available.

Register by calling Laura at 425-392-6367, extension 210.  (It’s VERY important for dinner and childcare planning that you register!)

Thanks to Friends of Youth for offering the classes and to Greater Issaquah Youth and Family Network for sponsoring them.

Your generosity helps Issaquah Schools Foundation’s generosity

Nearly 40 individual school projects are the recipients of more than $100,000 in ISF Kateri Brow Big Idea Grants and Classroom Enrichment grants for 2006.

Projects and grant recipients will be honored Wednesday, April 19 at 5:30 pm in the Administration Center Board Room.  Don’t miss the excitement!

Money for the grants comes from your generous donations to the Foundation.

Calling for Kids on May 23, 24, & 25 is your next opportunity to support ISF.  Students will be calling residents, giving you the opportunity to donate to phone-a-thon goals to buy Junior Great Books series for elementary schools, graphing calculators for middle schools, and science data measuring devices for high schools.

Watch for more details coming after spring break!

Enjoy spring break, April 10-14
