- Jennell Reece,
assistant
principal at Echo Glen Children’s Center, has accepted the principal position
at Issaquah Valley Elementary beginning July 1. Jennell—who has a degree in
elementary education, spent her childhood in Issaquah schools, and first
taught in the District at Issaquah High—is excited to return to a neighborhood
school and her educational roots. A letter of introduction will be sent home
with Issaquah
Valley students
today.
- Judy Simpson
recently
lost her battle with cancer. As principal’s secretary at Pine Lake Middle
School from 1975 until her recent retirement,
Judy touched countless lives of
students and colleagues, and her impact was honored with a Chain of
Achievement award in 2003. Judy’s
family is celebrating her life and far-reaching legacy, in accordance with
Judy’s wishes, by holding a social
gathering from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, in Pine
Lake’s library. At 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., guests will be invited to share
their thoughts and memories.
- The King County
Sheriff’s Office is holding a notification
meeting about a level 2 sex offender at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at
Briarwood
Elementary. The offender is moving to the 11800 block of 150th Ave. S.E.,
Renton. For more information,
contact King County Detective Michael Luchau at
206-205-7948.
- Don’t forget to
regularly check the online Points of Pride page, which
celebrates successes in schools. This week, we honor our DECA students for an incredible turnout
at the national conference, among other highlights.
- On Tuesday, a suspicious man in a van approached a
middle school girl on her way home from school in downtown Issaquah and asked
her several luring questions. This followed a similar, unrelated incident
earlier in May. While our students did the right thing—ran away and alerted
adults, which allowed the suspect in the most recent case to be
apprehended—these incidents are a good reminder to discuss important stranger
safety tips with your child:
- Never
talk to a stranger.
- Never
let a stranger get too close, whether the stranger is in a car or walking.
- Never
tell a stranger any personal information, such as your name, age, or
address.
- Always
try to walk in pairs with a friend or an adult.
- Stick to
safe, well-lit paths when walking.
- Do not
obstruct your hearing with iPods are portable music players when walking or
waiting outside.
- If a
stranger tries to grab you, yell as loudly as you can and run away.
- Always
alert an adult immediately if you are approached by a suspicious
person.
