Subject: Happy summer, elementary math, bargaining update, and more ...

·        Happy first day of summer! That means the last day of school—Monday, June 25—cannot be far behind. Have a fun, relaxing, safe and (of course!) educational summer break. Elementary families … don’t forget to return your lime-green enrollment postcard as soon as you receive it (in late July) to confirm your child will be attending school here next year—that way we will have the teachers and resources we need for each elementary student. Middle and high school students will confirm their enrollment during their August registration process.

·        School may be out, but there’s no break from important business. The School Board meets at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, June 27, at the Administration Building. The Board is expected to discuss and take action on the elementary math adoption. More information, including the presentation from this month’s elementary math adoption work-study session, is online. A range of materials from the recommended curriculum, Everyday Math, will be on display at the Administration Building until next Wednesday.

·        Gradebook is coming this fall! This new online grade system—piloted with great success at Tiger Mountain Community High School this year—will replace Basmati at middle and high schools and be fully integrated into the District’s Family Access records portal, which already contains student attendance information, class schedules, and contact information. Think of it as one-stop shopping. Teachers will continue to upload grades at least six times a year for middle school students and eight times a year for high school students. More information will be available closer to the start of the new school year.

·        This summer, the District’s team will continue meeting and bargaining with the four labor groups that have expiring contracts: teachers, educational assistants, bus drivers, and secretaries. The process has been cooperative so far, and we have much optimism as we move forward. Stay tuned for more information.

·        The District will hold a surplus sale featuring obsolete computers and related items from 3 to 5 p.m. next Thursday, June 28, at May Valley Service Center.

·        It was up to CSI Skyline High to unmask the Skyline Phantom, who has been committing unsavory crimes at the school for years.
