- The new athletic
handbook, with an updated drug/alcohol
violation code, was released last week. Students athletes discovered in
possession of or under the influence of drugs/alcohol will now—on a first
violation—be allowed back on their sports team after 10 days if they agree to
an assessment and any assessment recommendations. Drug/alcohol sanctions now
cover the entire school year for a student athlete; previously, they only
applied to an athlete during his/her athletic season(s). Also, all student
athletes are now required to attend a one-hour
drug/alcohol education symposium prior to their sports
season.
- Save room
on your wall because the 2006-07 school art
calendars are on their way. Each family with an enrolled student
should receive a copy. This year, 35 student
artists’ pieces are featured.
- The
school board will hold a public
hearing on the preliminary
2006-07 budget at its meeting, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the
administration building, 565 N.W.
Holly St. Board members will conduct a
work-study session before, at 6 p.m., to discuss the superintendent search
process.
- Elementary
parents:
You should have recently received a lime-green postcard in the mail asking
you to confirm your student’s
enrollment. Please do so as soon as possible. Also take the opportunity to
provide feedback about your child’s school experience by taking the elementary parent survey, available
online through August 11.
- Middle- and
high-school parents: A survey about your child’s school experience will
become available online Aug. 21 to Sept. 1.
- As the
beginning of school nears, please be aware of the district’s check acceptance
policy:
- A check must
include your full and accurate name, current address, and telephone
number. In the event your check is returned for non-payment, the face
value may be recovered electronically along with a state-allowed recovery
fee. At this time the recovery fee to the company is
$20.00.
- In the event your
check is returned for non-payment, the district has the right to no longer
accept this form of payment for the remainder of the school year.
Alternative forms of payment may be used instead of a check payment, such as
cash or a cashier’s check.
- Look for
the district’s community newsletter, FOCUS, in your mailbox this week. The
current issue has articles about the construction bond, the superintendent
search, healthy students and schools, innovative teachers and staff, and more.
For in-depth information, check out FOCUS
online.
- Want to
make a meaningful impact on the life of an at-risk student? Volunteer to be a
V.O.I.C.E. mentor—the new 2006-07
application is now online.
- The city’s
Beat the Heat Splash
Day is today, Aug. 2! Children
should plan on getting wet as
they run through a fire truck’s hose, sprinklers, bubbles, and more, from 1-3
p.m. at the Issaquah Community
Center lawn, 301 Rainier Blvd. S. The cost is $2 a
child.
