·        What kind of information should be on the District website and how should it all be organized? Please give feedback as part of a focus group that will help us design a new website that’s useful and easy to navigate. Participants can expect fun, interaction, and—refreshments! Call or e-mail Webmaster Robert Miller, 425-837-7189 or millerr@issaquah.wednet.edu, with which date you prefer to attend: Thursday, Sept. 13, from 6-8 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; or Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9-11 a.m. Each will be held at the Administration Building, 565 N.W. Holly St.

·        Middle- and high-school parents, please take the opportunity to fill out an online survey to provide feedback about your student’s school experience. The survey is open through 4 p.m. Aug. 31.

·        “When to Worry: How to Tell if Your Teen Needs Help—and What to Do About It”: Child psychologist Lisa Boesky, a national expert on troubled teens, will speak about this topic (which is also the title of her new book) from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Skyline High School, 1122 228th Ave. S.E., Sammamish. The public is welcome and the seminar is free. Dr. Boesky’s high-energy presentation will cover teen depression, self injury, school problems, ADHD, delinquency, alcohol and drugs, eating disorders, and much more. She will help parents understand what is normal and what is not.

·        Doug Longman, orchestra teacher and leader of the District’s Evergreen Philharmonic, will be featured in artEast’s upcoming exhibit “Collective Memory: The Spirit of Community in Art.” This exhibit honors local artists—who have shaped the community with their extraordinary art—by telling their life stories in a visual presentation. Mr. Longman, and the 15 other featured artists, will be on hand to kickoff the exhibit at the opening reception, 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 7, at the artEast UpFront Gallery, 48 Front St. N. Thanks to Mr. Longman’s dedication, passion, and leadership as a teacher, the Issaquah community has been infused with music and music appreciation since 1979.

·        Our schools in the past have provided absentee ballot request forms for parents in registration packets or on community tables; this year, we are instead offering you this electronic reminder: If you would like to request an ongoing absentee ballot form, visit the King County Election website.
