efficient school bus transportation, and stabilizing tax rates for residents

If the Board approves the committee’s
recommendations, the total cost between 2007-2015 for the proposed items and all
other existing local school finance obligations is projected at $3.97 per $1,000
of assessed valuation. That is compared to a projected cost in 2006 of
$3.92.

The money to operate schools, pay
salaries, buy instructional materials, conduct professional development,
transport students, build schools, repair or buy equipment comes from:

State Funds (69¢ of each general
fund $)
o
Federal Funds (4¢ of each general
fund $)
o
Fees, grants, tuition (8¢ of each
general fund $)
o
Local voter-approved funds (19¢ of
each general fund $)

Technology, school construction,
and most of the cost of new school buses are not part of the general fund and
are paid for with money local voters must approve.
