1.      Bond and Levy recommendations for February 2006 election

Building enough safe learning spaces for students, equipping those spaces with educational technology, ensuring safe and efficient school bus transportation, and stabilizing tax rates for residents were among the goals of the Bond and Levy Scope Committee.

The School Board will consider the committee’s recommendations on Wednesday, September 28 beginning at 7 pm in the District Administrative Center, 565 NW Holly Street

If the Board approves the committee’s recommendations, the total cost between 2007-2015 for the proposed items and all other existing local school finance obligations is projected at $3.97 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.  That is compared to a projected cost in 2006 of $3.92.

Bond and Levy Scope Committee recommendations are based upon studies of how fast the district is growing, educational technology needs, the age and replacement schedule of school buses and facts about basic school funding:

·        The money to operate schools, pay salaries, buy instructional materials, conduct professional development, transport students, build schools, repair or buy equipment comes from:

o       State Funds (69¢ of each general fund $)

o       Federal Funds (4¢ of each general fund $)

o       Fees, grants, tuition (8¢ of each general fund $)

o       Local voter-approved funds (19¢ of each general fund $)

·        Technology, school construction, and most of the cost of new school buses are not part of the general fund and are paid for with money local voters must approve.

Details of the committee work and of the Maintenance and Operations Levy, School Bus Levy, Capital Levy, and Construction Bond are at http://www.issaquah.wednet.edu/board/bondlevy06.asp.
