The PLMS Mathletes had an outstanding day at the MathCounts Chapter Competition on Saturday, Feb 11th. There were over 200 competitors representing 25 public and private schools on the eastside. After achieving an incredibly impressive perfect score on the individual tests and facing down his opponents in the nerve-wracking Countdown Round, eighth-grader Gordon Lee finished in third place. In addition, the Pine Lake eighth-grade team—comprised of Kevin Chen, Gordon Lee, Meryl Seah, and Alex Tsai—scored 100 percent on the team competition, which, along with their outstanding individual performances, earned them a third-place trophy and the right to advance to the state Mathcounts competition in March.
MathCounts is a rigorous math competition that consists of two individual tests and a team round. The top ten individual competitors face off in an intense head-to-head Countdown Round in front of a live audience.
