Japanese students shine in state skit and speech competition

Congratulations to the Issaquah School District students who took home top awards at the 2012 Annual Washington State High School Japanese Skit and Speech Contest in March (the biggest high-school Japanese contest on the west coast). In addition to the competition awards, the third-year skit group from Skyline won most spirited. Thanks to the support of several businesses and organizations, the winners in all four levels in the speech categories won free trips to Japan!

Skit division

First-year level 
  • First: Issaquah High School—Andrew Lee, Alan Ko, Sesilia Tatofi, and Cienna Buyco
  • Third: Skyline High School—Yun Deng, Beatrice Manias, Geneva Ecola, and Esther Lee

Second-year level

  • First: Skyline High School—Ali Bedbury, Kate Cormier, Brandon Goh, , Cheryl Wang, and Katie Brower
  • Second: Issaquah High School—Alexander Valdes, Victoria Bland, Jesse Olsen-Jacobsen, and Jessie Dorsey

Third-year level

  • First: Skyline High School—Morgan Alverson, Hannah Junus, Emily Licholai, and Monica Mccugh
  • Second: Issaquah High School—Leah Thomson, Qiqi Zhong, En Tzu Chang, Jiyeon Baek, and Andrew Okada

Fourth-year level

  • First: Issaquah High School—Erin Freeman, Jack Wheeler, Marcus Scott, and Andrew Tseng
  • Third: Skyline High School—Lizzie Bull, Emily Howarth, Sonya Garber, Tiffany Ng, and Melanie Goddard
