How do Skyline students "Iron Chef?"
Teacher Mary Sullivan often uses cooking as a way to teach practical life skills such as teamwork and safety to her special-needs students at Skyline High School. Her class even turns out a complete community Thanksgiving meal every year.
But Sullivan recently orchestrated an exciting, theatrical event that raised her students’ culinary skills to the next level—Skyline “Iron Chef”! Based on the popular
fast-paced, cooking-showdown series on the Food Network, two teams of two students had only two hours to plan and prepare several tasty dishes that best showcased the featured ingredient—pasta. “Celebrity” judges included community members in the food industry and special education administrators.
Presiding over the event was announcer Bob Zimmerman, Skyline’s interim principal. Students in Skyline’s video production class taped and edited the show, which will be sent to the Food Network for a chance—cross your fingers—for the student chefs to be featured on a segment called “How do you Iron Chef?”
