Liberty senior's community service earns award

Liberty High School senior Stephanie Collin has received a volunteer student award from the 2006 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

pruawardStephanie has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President's Volunteer Service Award. For the last four years, she has been an active Key Club member and year-round mentor for underprivileged students. She currently spends one evening a week tutoring and reading to these students and as a result of her steadfast involvement, student reading levels have improved significantly. According to Key Club advisor Jennifer Baxter, "I have witnessed Stephanie's commitment to community. She is always willing to lend a hand whenever needed; volunteering for projects without thinking twice. I can always rely on her to get the job done."

Stephanie's award is granted by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country and is part of the larger Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program honors middle and high school students for outstanding volunteer service to their communities. Created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), it is the United States' largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteering. Over the past 11 years, the program has honored more than 70,000 young volunteers at the local, state and national level.
