MIT selects physics teacher Tom Haff for summer program
Issaquah High School's physics teacher Tom Haff has been selected as one of five Washington State teachers to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's intensive
Science and Engineering Program for Teachers. Each summer, MIT selects approximately fifty teachers to share MIT's perspective on how engineers apply the principles of science to meet the technological needs of society. The program combines leading-edge research in math and the sciences with engineering, advanced technologies, global economics, and policy issues. Mr. Haff will be studying among world leaders in Engineering and Physics.
Ten departments are represented during the week of June 25-July 1: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Civil Engineering and Nuclear Engineering. Included in the program are workshops, a physics demonstration, laboratory visits, and evening discussions where participants exchange vital knowledge and information that each brings to the program.
Mr. Haff shared this about the program and the opportunities it will provide: "I'm looking forward to the intensive program and challenge even though it has been described as taking a drink of water from a fire hose!"
