MIT selects Sunny Hills' Tom Tivnan for summer program
All schools and school districts would be proud to announce having a teacher invited to attend MIT's summer program. Issaquah School district has two such teachers!
Tom Haff of Issaquah High School and Tom Tivnan of the district's Science/Tech Magnet program at Sunny Hills will be among a select group of classroom teachers from around the country immersed in math and science with world renown MIT experts for a time in June.
Both teacher Tom's were selected because of their expertise as teachers and based upon the recommendations of those who submitted nominations for them. Parent Shannon Barghols' nomination letter outlined Tivnan's seamless classroom instruction "…so that children see math in all situations, science in all situations, reading in all situations, and much more." His students, "…hang on every word. They see the fun in science. They see the power of technology. They experience the joy of learning."
Tivnan is excited about this summer opportunity. "I am so stoked for this "vitamin shot" of science!"
