Curriculum Standards
The Issaquah Content Standards guide teaching and learning in all our classrooms in the areas of Literacy (reading, writing, and communication), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health and Fitness and the Arts. These statements describe what students should know and be able to do during and as a result of their educational experiences.The Issaquah Content Standards are based on the Washington State standards, called Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs). Teachers from across the state designed these content statements for grades 4, 7 and 10. Integrated into the design of the Essential Academic Learning Requirements are the state's learning Goals 3 and 4. Goal 3 links thinking skills to the content; Goal 4 links the Essential Academic Learning Requirements to the world of work.
Issaquah developed grade-level benchmarks to illustrate the developmental progression from kindergarten through eighth grade for each standard. High School course descriptions are included in each school's course catalog.
In January 2004, the state released new Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE). Issaquah teachers and principals will work this year to determine how our Content Standards and the new state GLCEs match and what changes will be made.
