ISD Online Learning - Semester Long Class - Summer 2019

Eligibility

  • Students in grades 7 – 12 during the 2018-19 school year.

  • Students who wish to accelerate or take a course for enrichment may take the course online.

  • Students who wish to improve a grade (received a C-, D+ or D) may opt to retake the course either through the in-person summer school program or online.  Students may improve up to four (4) semester grades during high school.  If a student registers for grade improvement and ultimately needs credit recovery, they will be transferred to the ISD summer school program (face to face, not online).

  • Students in need of a course for credit recovery (failed a course) must enroll with the in-person (not online)  ISD Summer School.

  • If a student is in need of a course for credit recovery (failed a course) and that course is not offered through the ISD Summer School, they can take the course online but will have 4 face to face support session meetings each week with a mentor.  

Sequencing

  • Students can take one semester long class during the summer session

  • Students who took the first semester of a year long class in the spring can take the second semester in the summer

  • Students can take the first semester of a year long class online in the summer and the second semester online in the fall.  (not recommended, puts the student off the usual pathway sequence)

  • Students can take two concurrent semester long classes during the summer session (very rigorous, not recommended)

Tuition  

Refunds and Drop Policy

  • If a fee is assessed, there are no refunds for courses dropped on or after the start date of the course and cannot be transferred to another term

  • Students may drop the course with no grade penalty within the first 2 days of class.  

  • Day 3 to 5 the student will receive a "W" on their transcript.

  • On or after day 6 the student will receive an "F" on their transcript.

Coursework/In-Person Requirements

  • Students taking one semester long course can expect to spend at least 15 hours per week, working on their online course. A semester long course covers 18 weeks of curriculum that must be completed in 6 weeks.

  • Students taking two semester long courses can expect to spend at least 30 hours per week, working on their online course. Each course covers 18 weeks of curriculum that must be completed in 6 weeks.

  • Coursework is done online; however, unit and final exams will be taken in-person proctored by Issaquah School District personnel.  This will require weekly in-person meetings.

Orientation - UPDATED

  • All NEW students are required to attend an in -person orientation

  • High School students enrolled in Apex courses: 
    • Monday, June 24th, 2019 - 11:30 am and 1 pm
  • High School students enrolled in WA State History with Fuel Ed:
    • Monday, June 24th, 2019 - 2:30 pm
  • Middle School students enrolled in Apex courses:
    • Monday, June 24th, 2019 - 4 pm
  • Students continuing from the spring should attend one of the 'Sign and Go' orientations
    • Monday, June 24th, 2019 - 11:30 am -11:45 am
    • Monday, June 24th, 2019 - 1:00 pm - 1:15 pm
    • Monday, June 24th, 2019 - 4:00 pm - 4:15 pm

Testing

  • All unit and final exams must be taken in person at a designated online learning testing session.  

  • All courses have a final exam. All coursework must be submitted prior to taking the final exam.

  • Testing sessions at Issaquah High School - UPDATED

In-Person Support Sessions at Issaquah High School for online students

  • If a student shows significant lack of progress, he/she will be required to attend the support sessions at Issaquah High School four days a week.

  • There will be a computer lab available at Issaquah High School for student use 4 days a week.
