Fact Sheet - Year Long Class - Summer 2019

ISD Online Learning - Year Long Class - Summer 2019

Registration Opens Registration Closes Start Date  End Date
Year long courses (6 weeks) Monday, February 25th, 2019 @ 8 am Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 @ noon Monday, June 24th, 2019 Friday, August 2nd, 2019

  • We strongly discourage students from taking a year long course during the summer.  The pacing is incredibly rigorous.  If students still select to take a year long course during the summer, we strongly discourage that student from working, taking other classes, traveling, or participating in any other activities.

  • Students in grades 7 – 12 during the 2018-19 school year.

  • Students who wish to accelerate or take a course for enrichment may take the course online.

  • Students who wish to improve a grade (received a C-, D+ or D) may opt to retake the course either through the in-person summer school program or online.  Students may improve up to four (4) semester grades during high school.  If a student registers for grade improvement and ultimately needs credit recovery, they will be transferred to the ISD summer school program (face to face, not online).

  • Students in need of a course for credit recovery (failed a course) must enroll with the in-person (not online)  ISD Summer School.

  • If a student is in need of a course for credit recovery (failed a course) and that course is not offered through the ISD Summer School, they can take the course online but will have 4 in-person support session meetings each week with a mentor.

  • Students can take a year long class during the summer session (VERY RIGOROUS!!!)

  • The courses are two stand-alone semester course, each lasting three weeks.

    • So, for instance, for students wanting to take a year-long Geometry course, this is how it would work:

Geometry Semester 1

Course opens:  Monday, June 24th

Course closes:  Friday, July 12th*

Geometry Semester 2

Course opens:  Monday, July 8 *

Course closes:  Friday, August 2nd

*We overlap the classes for convenience so that as soon as the student completes semester 1, they can get started immediately in the semester 2 portion without delay.  Classes start on Mondays only, so that is the reason for the overlap.

Course Activity Reports

  • Course activity reports give suggested due dates for assignments and tests.  Below are the links to the course activity reports for our most rigorous summer classes.

  • Students may drop the course with no grade penalty within the first 2 days of class.

  • Day 3 to 5  the student will receive a "W" on their transcript.

  • On or after day 6 the student will receive an "F" on their transcript.

Coursework/In-Person Requirements

  • Students completing a year long class can expect to spend at least 30 hours per week working on their online course. Courses cover 36 weeks of curriculum that must be completed in 6 weeks.

  • Coursework is done online; however, unit and final exams will be taken in-person proctored by Issaquah School District personnel.  This will require multiple meetings per week for a year long class
