Our Mission is to connect students who need social, emotional or academic support with dedicated mentors who foster, hope, resilience and self-advocacy in our students.
Volunteers of Issaquah Changing Education (VOICE) is an in-school mentoring program that pairs caring adults or high school-aged volunteers with Issaquah School District students for one-on-one, supportive relationships. We provide mentors for students at all grade levels at all 24 Issaquah schools.
VOICE mentors work with students for up to one hour per week throughout the school year. Mentors are thoroughly screened and trained before being approved for our program.
We have on-site coordinators at each school who provide mentor support. Additionally we offer several optional learning opportunities through the year so mentors can improve their mentoring skills and learn more about the issues that impact our young people today,
Studies show that when young people experience positive, supportive mentoring relationships, their outcomes are significantly better in a wide range of areas – from mastering social and emotional skills to succeeding in school – plus risk behaviors such as drinking, smoking, and fighting are significantly lower.
The VOICE Program is currently accepting mentor applications for the 2020-2021 school year. However, because Issaquah School district students are currently learning remotely, processing of applications has been temporarily put on hold.
You are welcome to submit an application, but keep in mind that it will not be processed until we are able to match new mentors.
At that time, if your application has been submitted, we will contact you with more information.
