Taste Washington Day celebrates Washington agriculture and promotes good nutrition in our schools. On October 2, school lunches in the Issaquah School District will highlight local produce and dairy from the fantastic bounty Washington State has to offer. Each featured produce item will be accompanied by signage in the lunch room for the students to see with information about the local farm that grew and harvested the food.
We are happy to announce that the milk we serve this day, and every day during the school year, is supplied by Smith Brothers Dairy in Kent, Washington. Smith Brothers belongs to a Washington State Dairy Pool and the locally processed milk is all produced by Washington State dairy cows. Other featured items are fresh celery from Carpinito Brothers in Kent, Washington, fresh peaches from Sage Fruit Co in Yakima, Washington, fresh pears from Rainier Fruit in Selah, Washington and fresh Golden Delicious apples from Evans Fruit in Yakima, Washington.
We look forward to participating in our fifth annual Taste Washington Day and future opportunities to feature locally grown and produced foods in our schools. Taste Washington Day is organized in partnership by the Washington School Nutrition Association (WSNA) and the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA).
