Safe and Healthy Schools

With the release of the 2008 Healthy Youth Survey results, we are encouraged that our students have many healthy behaviors and feel safe at school. However, some of the substance-use statistics have increased to a level of concern. Looking at three years of survey data, there is a trend that indicates engagement in risky behaviors grows significantly by the senior year.

Our schools and the Safe and Drug Free Schools Advisory Committee are currently reviewing the survey results as well as the health-related services, strategies, and curriculum that are delivered to support and educate our students. The committee is comprised of counselors from elementary, middle and high schools, representatives from community and governmental health agencies, Issaquah PTSA Council, school administration, and school prevention/intervention specialists.
