Video Script - Translating Middle School Course Selection Forms to Other Languages

Hello. This is the Issaquah School District Family Partnership Team. Here is a video tutorial on how to complete the Course Selection form for classes you children will be attending at middle schools next school year. Each family will need to choose the courses for their middle school child by April (you can check the school for the due date).

  • Schools have links for course selection on the school website when the course selection window is open. For most ISD schools, students and parents can start selecting course starting mid to late March.
  • Information is available on all the schools’ website with more information about the different class options and course pathways such as math and science.
  • If you need help completing the forms, please contact your child’s school or a Family Partnership Liaison.

An email has been sent to you with information regarding the course selection process for next year’s classes. Please check your junk mail or your folder for this important email. If you can’t find the email, you can also complete and find all this information on the school’s website. This is an example of an email sent by the school’s registrar.

All schools in Issaquah have a Google Translate feature on the top right so that families can access the information in their preferred language.

Using the Google Translate feature on the website of all the middle schools in Issaquah, you can read the main page with links for the registration forms in your preferred language of communication.

Please make sure you are filling the correct form. You will need to fill the form for the next school year. For example, if your child is in 6th grade, complete the Course selection form for 7th grade.

When you open the Course Selection form, you will be able to read it and have it read to you using couple options. You can also complete the form in other languages. On the top right section of the form, you will find a drop down menu titled “English”. Click on the drop down arrow to select a language to complete the form.

You can read the form in other languages by click on the three dots at the bottom of the information section on the form before the questions. You need to Right click to get the options. One of the options is to “Translate to English” and other languages. When you select and click on “Translate to English” a new icon will appear in the URL – website address bar

Reminder, You need to Right click to get the options. When you select and click on “Translate to English” a new icon will appear in the URL – website address bar. You will see an icon that looks like the letter “a” with another symbol.

There are many options of languages to translate the document. Select your preferred language to read the document. As you scroll down the form, you may have to translate the different sections of the document.

Lets looks at what this looks like live

Here is the form. Here are the three dots. I am right clicking. The “a” icon is appearing in the URL bar. I am selecting a language and the document is available to read in another language.

To listen to the information (have it read to you) Click on the dots and the “Enable Immersive Reader” box will appear.

The Immersive Reader icon (the book and the microphone icon) will appear when you move your mouse over the question. Click on the icon. A new box will appear. Click on the book icon on the top right of the document.

Select your language of preference or English.

You can have one word read to you or the entire section of the document in your preferred language or in English.

Click on the green arrow on the bottom to listen to the text. Scroll down to listen to the entire section as needed.

Click on the back arrow on the left side of the screen to go back to the form.

A reminder, the Immersive Reader feature is also helpful for families as they read information sent home by teachers such as this newsletter.

When you click on the document, it will open in a new window and you will see the immersive reader option.

Click the Immersive Reader feature and it will translate the text, or you can listen to the text read to you in your preferred language.

You can also click on the three dots and find the Translate option to translate the document in other languages.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the school or a liaison if you have questions or need help completing the forms. The Family Liaisons are available to support families through this process. They can contact you and work with you with an interpreter at no cost to the parent.

The Issaquah School District is committed to supporting students’ success by supporting families.

Thank you!
