Third Trimester

Assessments

Assessments designed to help the teachers identify student proficiency in pre-requisite skills and to plan differentiated instruction.

  • Reading Foundational Skills: Teachers use ongoing progress to assess student learning needs in reading foundational skills
  • Reading Comprehension: Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment. Teachers will administer a 1:1 reading comprehension assessment.

Reading

Narrative Texts

Informational Text

  • Features of print, phonics, phonological awareness, word recognition, spelling patterns

    Writing

    In the third trimester, writing will focus on informational How-to books, writing to share an opinion or preference and gathering information to answer a question, as well as grammar and conventions.

    Science

    In the third trimester, Kindergarten students will continue the Amplify Science unit of Needs of Plants and Animals as well as study the unit on Sunlight and Weather.

    Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

    SEL will focus on strengthening relationships and a supportive class community including learning in the following areas:

    • Understanding and managing one’s own emotions
    • Decision making & problem solving skills
    • Becoming aware of other people’s emotions & perspectives
    • Showing awareness and respect for similarities and differences in a community or social group
    • Communication skills
    • Healthy relationships
    • Engagement in school and community responsibility

    Math

    In Math, core instruction during the third trimester will focus on number sense and counting to tell the number of objects, understanding addition as putting together and adding to as well as understanding subtraction as taking apart and taking from. Students will also work with numbers 11-19 to gain foundations for place value.
