Dear ISD Families -
We are happy that we can now share details of the tentative agreement reached with our teacher's union, Issaquah Education Association (IEA), late Friday afternoon.
As a district we have been eager to have students begin in-person hybrid learning. Last week we communicated a timeline that the District was prepared to implement. However, the new tentative agreement requires us to adjust the timeline previously shared. We acknowledge this is disappointing to our students and families as many of you were excited to begin in-person hybrid learning this coming week. We are encouraged that the District and the IEA are now aligned on a plan and collaboratively working to bring our K-3 students back to our schools soon. Please understand that returning with the partnership of our teachers will provide the best outcome for all students as we proceed.
The most important change for families to be aware of is that all K-1 students will be placed with their new classroom assignment but will continue with full remote learning on February 4th. Below is further information detailing what the next week will look like for K-1 students given the new tentative agreement.
IEA will be holding a general membership meeting on the evening of Tuesday, February 2nd with members voting on the tentative agreement through Wednesday, February 3rd. Once the vote is complete, the District will communicate further information to families no later than Thursday, February 4th.
We are hopeful that if the membership approves the tentative agreement and the current downward trends in metrics continue, we will see K-1 students begin in-person hybrid learning prior to mid-winter break. We are committed to providing as much information as possible in a timely manner moving forward as we understand families need time to make plans.
