Have symptoms? When to Stay Home From School

This is a friendly reminder of what to do as cold and flu season is upon us. If your student has any symptoms, it is best to stay home for at least a day while you assess the need to test for COVID-19 and determine when your student can/should return to school.

Here is a quick guide for test and return to school timelines:

  • Have a fever? If a fever develops of 100.0 or greater, your student needs to either quarantine for 10 days OR get a negative COVID test from a testing center. Wait at least 24 hours after the fever subsides without the use of anti-fever medications before returning to school.
  • Have any other symptom that is NOT a fever (headache, sniffles, cough, sore throat, diarrhea, fatigue, muscle soreness/aches, nausea/vomiting)? With a non-fever symptom, you should be monitored for 24 hours. If there are no other symptoms (1 symptom ONLY) and the single symptom improves within 24 hours, your student can return to school the next day. If there is shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, a second symptom OR the single symptom is persistent for more than 24 hours, your student will need to either quarantine for 10 days OR get a negative COVID-19 test and wait at least 24 hours after the symptom(s) is gone before returning to school.

We greatly appreciate the partnership between our students, parents and school as we have to work together to keep kids safe. Remember if at any time you test positive for COVID or are identified as a close contact outside of school exposure, please contact your school's COVID Supervisor.
