Challenger Elementary Evacuation Due to Reports of Smoke

Dear Challenger Families,

1:40 p.m.

We want to make you aware that students and staff have been evacuated from the building due to reports of smoke in the Atrium. First Responders are on the scene and all students have been accounted for. We will update you when more information becomes available.

2:22 PM

Dear Challenger Families,

We want to let you know that all students are safe and accounted for after we evacuated the building this afternoon due to smoke/possible fire as reported earlier.

However, on the advice of First Responders, we are relocating students to Beaver Lake Middle School.

  • Parents, you may come pick your child up at Beaver Lake Middle School after 2:50 p.m. after Beaver Lake buses have departed. Please come to the gym and look for the re-unification site.

  • Kindergarten students and LRC2 students Transportation will be picking those students up at 3:30 p.m. at Beaver Lake to transport students home.

  • Be prepared to show I.D. to sign your child out.

  • For students not being picked up by parents, students will not be released prior to 3:35 dismissal unless permission is noted on the emergency card.

  • Please do not come to pick your child up earlier so that we have an orderly checkout process and avoid traffic issues with the Beaver Lake buses department.

  • BASC after school childcare and activities have been cancelled.

We will send updates regarding school tomorrow as we have more information.

3:45 PM

Dear Challenger Families,

Wow, we had quite the exciting afternoon at Challenger this afternoon. The good news is that the building has been cleared to hold school tomorrow!

Principal Kessler wants to thank the students and staff for their calm demeanor throughout the evacuation and reunification process. We practice for these situations and our systems worked well. In addition, Principal Kesler wants to express her appreciation for the amazing cooperation of Challenger parents!
