Sustainability Efforts Recognized by U.S. Department of Education

Thank you to the US Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools Program for visiting Issaquah Middle School as part of the 2019 Green Strides Tour. Superintendent Ron Thiele welcomed visitors and expressed his appreciation for the dedication of staff and students as well as our community partners to furthering the ISD’s Sustainability efforts. Issaquah City Council member Mariah Bettise said she was proud of the City’s long history of partnering together with the ISD and King County on our shared sustainability initiatives. Honored guests included Washington State 5th District Legislative Representatives Bill Ramos and Zach Hall from Representative Lisa Callan’s office; ISD School Board Directors Marnie Maraldo and Anne Moore; King County Green Schools Program Manager Dale Alakel; Elizabeth Schmidtz from OSPI; and Andrea Falken with the U.S. Department of Education

About the Green Strides Tour

U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools and its Green Strides outreach initiative share promising practices and resources in the areas of safe, healthy, and sustainable school environments; nutrition and fitness; and environmental education.  As part of its Green Strides outreach, the Department conducts an annual tour.  In 2019, the Green Strides Tour returns to the state of Washington with the theme Whole Child, Whole School Sustainability.
