Volunteer Update Winter 2021

Posted on December 14, 2021

We are pleased to update you about our planned expansion of volunteering in the ISD. Thanks to low COVID-19 infection rates in our schools, very high vaccination rates among our older students, staff and community, and the availability of vaccines for our 5- to 11-year-old students, we are comfortable approving more volunteers to support our schools’ academic as well as social and emotional programming starting in January. We will process volunteer applications with verified vaccinations because of the need to prioritize staff and student safety as well as manage the workload involved.

In a typical school year, we have had as many as 9,000 volunteers, and our Human Resources team cannot manage the number of possible exemptions for volunteers and the necessary oversight required for approved exemptions. We are busy overseeing the employees with approved exemptions and that is as much as we can manage at this time alongside our regular duties. We thank you for your understanding, and for supporting the Issaquah School District!
