Grades 6-12 In-Person Hybrid Return to School Update

Posted on March 23, 2021

As we continue to plan for grades 6-12 start of in-person hybrid, we want to share that the District will not meet the School Board’s original target date of Monday, March 29. However, we are pleased to announce we have reached an agreement with IEA on an April 15 start date for in-person hybrid for our secondary students. The District is excited to have an agreed upon date that provides certainty for staff, students, and families to plan accordingly.

The Issaquah School District and Issaquah Education Association (IEA) continue to bargain the impact of our hybrid in-person option for middle and high school students. We are optimistic a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding for grades 6-12 will be reached soon.

This new date allows for the following:

  • An opportunity for all secondary educators to receive two doses of vaccine.
  • Planning for staffing adjustments created by the Governor’s proclamation on high-risk employees.
  • Opportunities for staff to attend trainings to support the transition to in-person hybrid concurrent teaching.

The District is confident in our plans that clearly map out the safety protocols and necessary operation details that will provide for the return of our middle and high school students in-person on Thursday, April 15. We will provide further details regarding secondary schedules and instructional model prior to break.
