Apollo Elementary School Celebrates Cultural Diversity

Posted by User Not Found on 23 February, 2015

More than 600 students and families packed the Apollo Elementary gym, halls, and multi-purpose room for the popular Multi-Cultural Night event sponsored by the PTSA Friday, February 6. At the start of the night, families dined on delicious cuisine from around the world at the International Food Festival. Along with food, students enjoyed games and activities from various cultures, such as henna tattoos from India.

With stomachs full and game prizes in tow, the program portion of the event kicked off with a surprise entrance and performance by the International Chinese Lion Dance troupe. The excitement continued with performances by the Apollo Choir, Blue Dog Tap Dance Troupe, and Mrs. Pfeffer's 4th grade class.  Families were also treated to an impressive "Tinikling" dance by Apollo students of Philippine heritage and a spectacular Bollywood performance by students of East Indian heritage.

The evening concluded with the Parade of Countries fashion show. Students showcased beautiful attire from a variety of cultures as they strutted across the stage.  A crowd favorite was the student dressed as the Statue of Liberty. The night concluded with all of the represented cultures joining together on stage as a display of what America truly looks like today. Photo courtesy of Apollo Parent Volunteer Rod Paulino.
