Briarwood Celebrates Cultural Diversity with International Night

Posted by User Not Found on 17 March, 2016

From the roaring sounds of bagpipes to rhythmic Polynesian dancing to the luscious combinations of delightful textures and flavors brought to palette in traditional dishes, Briarwood Elementary School celebrated student cultures at their recent International Night.

More than 200 students and families attended to celebrate their cultural heritage with informational boards that represented the countries of their origin or ancestry, samplings of finger foods, traditional crafts, and community and student entertainment.

Danielle Hunter, PTSA International Night Coordinator shared, “We had a bagpiper, a kindergartner who play the Indian National Anthem on piano, an Indian dance group who also performed a fashion show, multiple students who sang Indian songs, and a Polynesian dance group. It was quite the event!”

The PTSA sponsored International Night was an opportunity for students and their families to learn more about the cultural backgrounds of their fellow classmates and experience some of the sights, tastes, and sounds.
