CTE Month Highlight: American Sign Language Program

CTE Month Highlight: American Sign Language Program

Posted by Elizabeth Egan on 4 February, 2021

Did you know that American Sign Language (ASL) is a CTE program? Students prepare for potential careers in ASL Interpreting. ASL Honor Society and ASL level 3 students at Issaquah High School traditionally perform an interpretation of the National Anthem during the assembly for Veteran's Day. However, with the pandemic, the performance was practiced and recorded via Zoom.

The ASL Honor Society has also collaborated with DECA (an association of marketing students) to teach them how to sign their slogan, “We Mean Business.” That video can be seen here:

The ASL program at Issaquah High School is led by CTE teachers Paige Friedli and RJ Harris. The DECA program is led by CTE teacher Andrew Shanafelt.
