IHS Sports Medicine Team wins seventh straight state title

When it comes to sports medicine competitions, no one dominates like Issaquah High. Last weekend, they took first place at the State Championship of the Washington Career and Technical Sports Medicine Association for the seventh straight year!

The 20-person team is now qualified for the National High School Sports Medicine Competition next month, where they're also no strangers to victory: They've won the national competition the past six straight years!

More than 900 students from 52 schools competed in the state competition, held in Tacoma this year. Six of the top 12 students overall were from Issaquah High. The competition requires students to show their knowledge and skills in a range of disciplines related to sports medicine. This year, IHS took first place in many disciplines, including medical terminology, exercise physiology, emergency responder, and anatomy and physiology. They also won the quiz bowl competition and the first anatomage competition.

"It really comes down to the students and how much they love this stuff," said Todd Parsons, who teaches sports medicine at IHS. "They spend hundreds of extra hours after school diving into this stuff, learning the skills and practicing their craft."
