Issaquah High Joins International Thespian Society

Posted by Elizabeth Egan on 16 February, 2017
On December 22, 2016 Issaquah High School joined the International Thespian Society. The induction ceremony for its inaugural group of students took place last week.

ITS, which Skyline High School and Liberty High School also are members of, is an honorary organization for high school and middle school theatre students who have excelled in theatre arts. In order to be eligible for ITS individuals must have accrued at least 100 hours in theatre arts, either through performance or theatre tech activities. The program, which was founded in 1929, is located at more than 4,200 secondary schools across American, Canada, and abroad.

While part of ITS, students accrue Thespian points based on the number of hours spent on future projects and productions, as well as the quality of those productions. If a student accrues enough points beyond induction, ITS honors that student as either an Honor Thespian (60 points), National Honor Thespian (120 points), or an International Thespian (180 or more points).

Issaquah High’s ITS students will continue to support the theatre arts programs at the high school, but are excited to reach out to local community organizations and spread their love of theatre arts. They hope to work with the local YMCA, various retirement centers, middle schools, and other groups who would benefit from and enjoy working with ITS.
